Gemini: The Ultimate Feedback Prompt

(you can easily filter previous issues by application!)

Hey friends - I've got two cool things to share with you today:

Workspace Academy

Cohort 2 of the Workspace Academy just launched! The last cohort sold out in just three days so I've expanded the cap from 100 to 300 for Cohort 2.

If this is the first time you're hearing about it, the Workspace Academy is built around one simple idea - that most professionals arenā€™t held back by a lack of ability or technical skill, but by their systems and their workflow.

And in my experience, when you have the right system in place, you gain the clarity and focus needed to excel in what truly matters, and your potential skyrockets.

The ultimate feedback prompt

Next, Iā€™d like to share a prompt Iā€™ve been using a LOT over the past few months at work. Hereā€™s an example of the prompt in action:

Example

As a senior marketing manager with an eye for detail, please review the blogpost draft for both strengths and areas for improvement.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate it? Be as candid and objective in your feedback as possible.

Then, please share 3 points that you enjoyed and 3 points of constructive feedback.

Help me understand how to make this better. Give me specific and tactical suggestions.

Hereā€™s the blogpost:

When should you use this?

At first glance, you might dismiss this as just another prompt meant to proofread your writing (e.g. improve upon this following excerpt by making it more clear and concise).

But the magic of this prompt is revealed when it comes to producing deliverables that require extensive review by people higher up our reporting chain.

For example, although I have a lot of autonomy at work, 20% of my work still needs to be reviewed and approved by my manager, my director, and my VP (e.g. when I launch a brand new marketing campaign).

Before sharing that business plan with my manager, I ask Gemini to:

  • Assume the role of a senior marketing manager with an eye for detailā€¦

But before presenting the same plan to my director, I ask Gemini to:

  • Assume the role of a senior marketing director who cares more about the big picture and storytelling than the tactical detailsā€¦

As you can hopefully see by now, by adjusting the persona you ask Gemini to take on and the type of things that new persona might care about, Gemini will be much more likely to give you accurate and relevant answers depending on who youā€™re presenting to!

Try it out yourself

Here are two articles you can paste into the prompt to see the results for yourself!

  1. Fallen Angels by Professor Scott Galloway
  2. A recent blogpost by Google

When youā€™re ready, here are all the ways how I can help.
