Future-Proof Yourself with this Exercise

Hey friends - As you might have noticed, I’m a huge proponent of generative AI technologies like ChatGPT and Google Bard.

And to that end, I’ve talked about free learning resources like learnprompting.org that I keep pinned in my browser at all times, and how we can use the 6 components to consistently write strong prompts:

(this example is missing the Exemplars component…how ironic)

But there’s only so much you can digest from passive learning; the best way to truly learn something is to take action.

One simple exercise to future-proof yourself

Whenever you come across a prompt, break it down into one of these 6 components:

  • Task
  • Context
  • Exemplar
  • Persona
  • Format
  • Tone

For example, let's say you come across this "bad" prompt:

You can add:

  1. Persona - You are an experienced college professor with over 20 years of teaching experience
  2. Exemplar - Refer to an example lesson plan from last year below (assuming you have one on hand)
  3. Format - Output in table format with different module suggestions
  4. Tone - (not applicable since we're outputting in table format)

You can re-watch my prompt formula video if you need a refresher but if I promise if you get in a habit of identifying these 6 components in prompts you come across, the quality of your own prompts will improve!
