Write an Effective Cold Email

Back when I was in college (full of optimism, innocence, and Red Bull), I sent a total of 367 cold emails to professional contacts (many of whom I found through my college's alumni database)

I had about a 10% response rate (which isn't bad, considering how I just needed 1 summer internship and 1 full-time job) and here are my top 3 learnings:

  1. The objective of the cold email should be to set up a face-to-face (or virtual) chat
  2. Make it about THEM, and not you
  3. Do NOT include a laundry list of questions (it's a lot more time-consuming to reply to a bunch of questions via email than it is hop on a quick phone call)
