Cover Letter prompts

Most cover letter prompts focus too much on the applicant rather than the company and use a single-prompt approach.

Instead, you should follow these three steps:

  1. Identify the biggest challenge for the position by using the job description
  2. Create an attention-grabbing hook that shows you understand the pain point and highlights your qualifications
  3. Write the rest of your cover letter, keeping it within 250 words

Using this approach, your cover letter will hook the reader and demonstrate your unique ability to solve the company's pain points.

Resume prompts

Don't just copy-paste a job description and ask ChatGPT to tailor your resume. Instead, use role prompting and follow these three steps:

  1. Highlight the three most important responsibilities in the job description
  2. Tailor your resume based on these responsibilities
  3. List the differences between your original resume and the updated version

This method ensures your resume speaks the same language as the recruiter and hiring manager, and lets you catch "hallucinations" (or lies) from ChatGPT 👀

Resume bullet point prompts

To optimize your resume bullet points, use this structure:

"I accomplished X by the measure Y that resulted in Z."

Prompts to help you prep for interviews

For the classic "Tell me about yourself" question, use the Present, Past, and Future framework.

  1. Start with the present (what you're doing now)
  2. Then, talk about a few select work experiences from your past,
  3. And end with the future (why you want to work in this new position)

For the "Future" part of your answer, you can also use ChatGPT to generate specific examples of why a company is a great fit for you based on your previous experiences.

Find a list of all interview questions you will be asked

To find other interview questions to prepare for, use ChatGPT to generate the 10 most common interview questions based on the job description.

Then, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the main reasons for each question and corresponding tips on structuring your answers
  2. Write an answer to each interview question using the CARL format (Context, Action, Results, Learning)
